Last night, a ceremony was held to dedicate a Torah scroll to the ZAKA Northern District Bereavement Fund in the heart of the city. The procession was attended by commanders and volunteers from the Northern District, ZAKA management members, and local residents.

At the end of the procession, a mezuzah was affixed, with Rabbi Anshel Friedman, Northern District Commander of ZAKA and Regional Rabbi of the Israel Police, Rabbi Yosef Shwinger, a representative of the ZAKA management, Chaim Wengarten, ZAKA’s Deputy Director of Operations, honored with the placement of the mezuzah at the new ZAKA Northern District house, which was inaugurated during the event.

The event concluded with an emotional festive meal, during which certificates of appreciation were presented to donor representative Yehuda Leib Grois from Montreal and ZAKA Commander of the Lachish Region, Yossi Landau, for his assistance in the Torah scroll donation and his ongoing support for all of ZAKA’s districts in Israel and worldwide.

Rabbi Anshel Friedman, ZAKA Northern District Commander, said: “The Torah scroll we dedicated today symbolizes for us the values of kindness and dedication that are engraved in the hearts of all ZAKA volunteers. I am moved to see the unity and collaboration around the Torah that guides our work for the living and for the honor of the deceased. It is a great privilege to lead a district that upholds these values.”

Israel Schechter, ZAKA Northern District Administrative Coordinator, added: “The dedication of the Torah scroll is a moment of true connection between our daily work and Jewish tradition. This is a special day that strengthens all of us to continue our efforts for the benefit of society and the community.”
