Last week, Israeli Consul in New York, Ophir Akunis, visited the scene of the Nova music festival massacre near the Gaza border. He was accompanied by Chaim Otmazgin, Commander of ZAKA’s Special Units, who led response efforts at the site following the horrific Hamas terror attack on October 7th.
During the visit, Otmazgin shared harrowing footage and firsthand accounts from the massacre scene – material he had personally documented in the days following the attack.
Visibly moved, Consul Akunis requested a copy of the footage, stating:
“This album must be shown to the world.”
He continued:
“The work of ZAKA’s volunteers during those tragic days was deeply inspiring. They were the first to enter the most devastating scenes and acted with unwavering devotion to ensure that each victim received dignity in death.”
Reflecting on the experience, Otmazgin added:
“It was a mission beyond comprehension. We carry a moral duty – to remember the victims, to bear witness, and to uphold their final dignity.”
ZAKA continues its global mission to honor life and death, ensuring that even in the aftermath of tragedy, no soul is forgotten.
