As part of the ongoing Operation “Like a Lion” (Am K’lavi), the Ashdod Municipality initiated a large-scale emergency preparedness drill on Tuesday. The simulation was designed to test emergency response protocols in the event of a direct missile strike and widespread urban destruction.

The joint drill involved Israel’s Home Front Command, the Israel Police, Magen David Adom, Fire and Rescue Services, ZAKA, municipal welfare teams, and the city’s volunteer network.

ZAKA volunteers in Ashdod, under the command of Isaac Rotner, operated within the simulated disaster zone, which mimicked a site of severe structural collapse. The drill included search and rescue training, coordination between emergency forces, locating missing persons, and – if necessary – respectful handling of the deceased in the aftermath of a mass-casualty event.

Isaac Rotner, ZAKA Ashdod Commander, stated:

“This drill marked a successful collaboration with all emergency services and the municipality. Practicing a complex scenario in such a challenging environment is critical for sharpening our operational readiness. ZAKA volunteers trained in essential field skills that will enable us to save lives and provide support when it truly counts.”
