When large-scale crises strike—be it war, earthquakes, or other national disasters—ZAKA’s Emergency Unit is ready to respond. Thousands of volunteers, organized in a structured, countrywide network, stand prepared to assist civilians when immediate aid is most needed.
Operating under a hierarchical-functional framework, the Emergency Unit integrates with civilian assistance systems across Israel. Volunteers undergo comprehensive training in leadership, military-style command and control, and essential protocols for working alongside emergency agencies. This ensures a cohesive, professional approach in high-pressure environments.
Some volunteers may be less inclined to handle day-to-day rescues and medical emergencies—yet they still want to serve the community when a major crisis hits. ZAKA believes every person, regardless of their background or skill set, can offer critical support during times of national need. By giving a year to specialized training, volunteers become recognized members of ZAKA, fulfilling the organization’s commitment to mutual responsibility and helping one another in dire circumstances.
The Emergency Unit’s capacity to mobilize thousands of volunteers rests on the support of donors who believe in ZAKA’s mission of “being ready for anything.” Each donation provides training, coordination, and essential resources, ensuring that when the unimaginable happens, help is at hand—and hope is never lost.
